International Jazz Day: A journey through the jazz brain of Tommy Scott!
A special online event featuring live conversation and music to celebrate International Jazz Day, with Tommy Scott and Alex Steele
Join us live on Zoom to listen to international jazz pianist, Tommy Scott, in conversation with jazz innovator, Alex Steele. Alex will be interviewing Tommy about his unique perspectives on jazz, and the event will be a blend of conversation, music, questions and answers with the audience.
This event will celebrate International Jazz Day, designated by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation), which is led by legendary jazz pianist and UNESCO Ambassador, Herbie Hancock.
International Jazz Day is about celebrating and learning about jazz and its roots, future and impact; it seeks to raise awareness of the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding; and to reinforce international co-operation and communication. It’s about recognising jazz as a medium to promote peace, dialogue among cultures, diversity, respect for human rights and human dignity, eradicating discrimination, promoting freedom of expression, fostering gender equality, and reinforcing the role of youth in enacting social change.
Whilst we face a global pandemic and lock-down throughout the planet, we would like to reach out to the world, and inspire you to come together and join us as we explore through music and conversation, the beauty of what jazz represents, artistically, culturally and socially.
This is a free event and we would love to welcome as many of you as possible. Zoom is free to use and download. There is a limit of 100 people who can sign up for this event. If it is oversubscribed, we may repeat the event as a live stream for a larger audience. But for the more intimate experience, come and see us on Zoom!
We will take you on a journey through the jazz brain of Tommy Scott. We will explore what it means to be a jazz musician; we will look at how the music has evolved and what it represents; and we will look at how the behaviours and perspectives of ‘the jazz brain’ can be of value to all of us, as we navigate the joys and challenges of everyday life. Alex Steele will host the event, and take us with him on a journey, as we dig deeply into the curious and wonderful brain of brilliant jazz pianist, Tommy Scott!
